how often do we look up? this is at ripley's aquarium ~ a fetching fish mobile, with its vibrant colours and lights projecting onto the walls of the reception ~ how many people, i wonder have looked up and really had a good look at this amazing display?

it is rare that i go out without a camera and increasingly i challenge myself to take a few interesting photographs that i can use as a short "photo essay"

  on a recent visit back to england, on an enjoyable day out with a couple of old friends, doing some street photography...we found ourselves at the wobbly bridge, otherwise known as the millennium bridge.

  ten years ago, i worked at st baths in the school of nursing and midwifery, as the it operations manager. my team and i would often walk across to the tate modern at lunch time - a very enjoyable walk.

  ten years ago, i shot the bridge, with my then brand new konica minolta dynax 7d (i still have it)...see the image here:

• it wasn't until i got back to canada, going through the images i had shot, that i realized the similarity between the two images - i didn't intend it. the first time, with the dynax 7d, i was very much trying out the camera and the image i captured that day, was a good one and has proven very popular. however, this time round i took my 2 year old olympus em-5, a great little camera, that i under use - so i was determined to take it out for a good workout. finding ourselves at the bridge, late on in the afternoon, i knew the image i was after...i wanted the bridge leading off towards st paul's, as sharp as i could make it, hand held, whilst using a low shutter for blur and movement of the people walking towards me.

i did hear hear, that later that day, some guy was seen tossing his 5d mkiii into the canadian falls!!

by means of an adaptor i used an old manual focus nikkor series e lens ~ 100mm f2.8 on a sony a99v body. judge the results for yourself! iso 50, 1/250 sec @ f2.8

an enjoyable day out with kieran, shooting some street photography

in this case a nikon 100mm f2.8 manual focus lens on a micro four thirds camera ~ the lens is very well built, wonderfully sharp and the dept-of-field ~ very shallow

colours abound everywhere ~ my favourite period of time here ~ thanksgiving, through to christmas

the amount of information stored in a raw file is incredible! modern cameras and sensors are so good these days, an image that looks ready for deletion can yield an image like this...http://www.visiononphotography.com/childrenfolder/h9619c97#h9619c97

talking dept-of-field, at f1.7 a 50mm lens on a full frame body...pretty shallow ~

shot with a minolta f1.7 50mm lens, autofocus too...29 years old ~ not a bad performer!

the event was held to raise awareness, as well as funds, for cleft palette care ~ in countries like peru, argentina and india ~ people were in a great mood and it was a tremendous evening

and the leaves are beginning to turn ~ autumn is coming
